Welcome.......
Same as the name ‘Mellieha’ is synonomous with salt and honey, so is ‘La Vittoria’ linked to the feast of Maria Bambina that is celebrated annually on September 8th. This historic date also commemorates the victory of the Maltese, led by the Knights of St. John, against the Turks during the Great Siege in 1565. It was purpously for this reason that the founders of the Societa’ Filarmonica La Vittoria opted for such a name so that the club will always be attached to Malta’s history and the feast in honour of its patron.
This website should turn out to be a positive step in updating all members and the general public with the society’s work and activities from time to time through today’s modern means. We promise to strive hard to ensure that the site is updated as often as possible so that followers, especially our numerous emigrants around the world, may get a good insight at their own leisure from their own house. The website will be hosted in two languages, namely Maltese and English.
We hope that you find this website interesting and we appreciate any feedback you may wish to send us, including ideas and suggestions. We hereby promise to give them due attention and, if possible, realise them for the benefit of one and all.

VITORJA 2011
Dear friends,
Festa 2011 ........ here it comes!
The empowerment of the term ‘friend’ knows no boundaries. There is nothing greater than greeting a colleague as a friend. An old Maltese saying relates that one friend at the market is much better than having hundred coins down the pocket. There is no doubt that the people who led La Vittoria through its one hundred and four years of existence always kept such a principle in mind, one that links on to this year’s motto that it’s through voluntary work that we have flourished and developed.
Such a motto is linked to the European Union’s current Year of the Voluntary. Hence, I invite you to leaf through a number of articles in this booklet where the theme of voluntary work has been given great prominence. Without dedication, effort and sacrifices apart from not expecting anything in return, it is of utmost importance that we keep on attracting people who are ready to give some of their free time towards achieving the common goal of our Club. One needs a great will to be able to contribute.
Live Streaming
May I remind you that you may follow live coverage of this year’s feast from the comfort of your home in Mellieha, in Malta or Gozo, or wherever you may happen to be around the world via the Club’s website: lavittoriabandclub.org
This year we worked relentlessly to ensure that we purchase the equipment required to streamlive not only the activities related to the annual feast but also other activities that are held during the year. Such a move has come along following the strong support received from numerous followers from overseas through their subscription in the SOĊJU EMIGRANT scheme. I appeal to one and all to lure others they know who have not yet opted to join up. You will always be in our hearts and daily thoughts. Those of you wishing to join the SOĊJU EMIGRANT scheme are kindly requested to send us an email via vittoria@maltanet.net jew info@lavittoriabandclub.org.
Activities
Throughout the past year activities were organised regularly. It was a very demanding year that for the first time included the highly successful Prize Day Concert. Other events included the Marathon in aid of the Puttinu Cares Foundation, the Cenacle during Easter time, the annual concert in December, the Christmas party for all Mellieha children as well as the musical programmes organised during the annual feast and that organised by the youth band. The Club also participated in the Mellieha Nights, Mellieha Christmas and the Bonfires of St. John festivities, all organised by the Local Council. This year we also had the ceremony related to the posession of our Parish by new Parish Priest Rev. Can. Joe Caruana.
Projects
We continued with the decoration of the bandstand though works relented slightly due to the fact that artist Mr. Guzeppi Sagona was indisposed for a while. We concluded the entire process of the new Statute as well as initiated works on the inventory. The kitchen in the 8th September Hall has been refurbished. We must look ahead yet we cannot do so without your support. There are numerous projects that are still to be carried out however we must proceed with caution and giving each one of them the priority they deserve.
Best wishes
Best wishes are also due to my fellow colleagues who form part of the Administrative Committee, the Band Director, the Vice Band Director, the tutors of the students and the choir, all members of the various Sub Committees and Commissions, bandsmen, choir members, ex bandsmen and above all the sick who are either in their homes, at Dar il-Madonna tal-Mellieha or at other venues. I also send my best regards to their families and those taking care of them, our benefactors, supporters and all emigrants. We surely appreciate your comments on our website: www.lavittoriabandclub.org. I strongly urge you to follow our activities by visiting the website.
May I take this occasion to wish all of you a happy feast and may Our Lady of Victories continue to keep its hold over our beloved village of Mellieha so that in unity and harmony we will be able to organise a memorable feast, as is expected of us all parishoners of Mellieha.
